Arokkian Nightmare

For many, being a Pagan or Heathen can be an expensive path, what with the cost of tools (even the materials to make one’s own can get costly), books (especially some of the more esoteric volumes–and don’t even get me started on Llewellyn), trying to make it to the occasional gathering, and so on, funds can be very limited. Add to that the cost of raising a family, bills, and other obligations, and life as a Pagan (or, as a human being, in general) can get pretty cost prohibitive. For those of us who are technologically inclined, or even just use a computer for menial tasks, the cost can get pretty outrageous.

I feel your pain. As a result, I have created this column in order to help find cheap or free (mostly free) and useful tools, programs, and other knick-knacks for your computer. From operating systems to games, from educational resources to graphics programs, I want to do my part to help the hard-working Pagan community maximize its quality of technological life while spending as little hard-earned cash as possible by highlighting little-known (or perhaps simply overlooked) websites, software, resources, and gadgets which are either free or nearly free to use. Some will be obvious, while others may be a bit off the beaten path (we tend to march to the beat of a different drummer anyway, don’t we?).

Stretching a dollar is important to most of us, especially considering the direction that the economy all over the world has taken. After all, Pagans is broke these days!
